Georgian police on Wednesday said law enforcement officers had arrested 112 individuals on drug-related charges, including 66 for drug-dealing, in capital Tbilisi and other regions of the country.
Teimuraz Kupatadze, the Head of the Central Criminal Police Department, said the arrested individuals included nationals from Georgia, the United States, Turkey, Ukraine, India, Iran, Russia, Jordan, Egypt and Eritrea.
He said police officers had seized “large and especially large” amounts of narcotic and psychotropic drugs including heroin, cocaine, Alpha PVP, Subutex, LSD, Ketamine, methamphetamine, marijuana, cannabis and other substances from locations indicated by the offenders, as well as during searches of the individuals, residential houses and vehicles related to them.
He also said police officers had seized a firearm, three guns, two hunting rifles, cartridges as well as computers, mobile phones, electronic scales and money allegedly obtained from drug sales as part of their efforts.
The offences are punishable by 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The Department Head also noted 282 drug dealers had been arrested throughout the country this year, and added police had seized 84 kg of heroin, 20 kg of Alpha PVP, 9,500 pills of Subutex and Suboxone, 2.5 kg of cocaine, 304 kg of marijuana, 4 tonnes of cannabis as well as 13 kg of “various psychotropic drugs” and 3 kg of “new psychoactive substances”.
