The Georgian Government Administration, the coordinating body of the country’s open governance reform, on Wednesday hosted a meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council to discuss the draft of the fifth action plan for the 2024-2025 Open Government of Georgia.

The meeting chaired by Revaz Javelidze, the head of the Administration, also featured John Pennell, the Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development in the Caucasus and Gigi Bregadze, the head of Democratic Governance at the United Nations Development Program in Georgia, along with representatives of international organisations and the domestic civil sector, the Government press office said.

The action plan encompasses 10 initiatives with the goal of enhancing access to information, transparency, strengthening accountability mechanisms of state agencies to the public and increasing opportunities for engagement.

Set for approval “in the near future”, the action plan also includes provisions for the involvement of several municipalities in the open governance process.

The Open Government Council of Georgia convened with support from the USAID project on Public Administration and the UNDP under the banner of Promotion of Public Administration Reform in Georgia.

Founded in 2011 by the presidents of the United States and Brazil, the Open Government Partnership aims to increase the transparency, accountability, and efficiency of governments. Georgia, as an early adopter, joined the OGP in 2011 and implemented open governance reforms across four OGP Georgia action plans.

The high-ranking Coordination Council of OGP Georgia was established at the initiative of the Georgian Government Administration and mirrors the governance structure of the OGP, offering equal participation opportunities for government agencies and civil society representatives, the press office added.
