The work accomplished in the joint human rights projects involving the Georgian Government on the one hand and the United Nations Development Programme, UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the European Union was discussed on Friday by Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze and officials from UNDP, OHCHR and EU.
The Ministry said Darakhvelidze met Nick Beresford, the UNDP Resident Representative, Vladimir Shkolnikov, the Senior Human Rights Advisor for the South Caucasus of the OHCHR and Agata Nieboj, the Team Leader of Human Rights, Justice and Home Affairs of the EU Delegation to Georgia.
Georgian Interior Ministry’s work on protecting the rights of persons with disabilities were discussed by the officials, with Darakhvelidze noting the effectiveness of the cascade training at the Patrol Police Department that addressed the protection of the rights of disabled individuals.

Darakhvelidze highlighted the “positive outcome of training”, including results of the work on access to legal proceedings for disabled persons.
The Human Rights for All project, facilitated in cooperation with the Georgian Interior Ministry and other partner agencies, was also reviewed at the meeting.
The project aims to implement and monitor the national human rights policy, combat torture and other forms of ill-treatment, strengthen the mechanisms of personal data protection and protect the rights of vulnerable groups.
