Law enforcement solved over 60% of crimes in 2022 – Interior Ministry

Georgian law enforcement agencies solved 33,805 out of 54,435 crime cases throughout 2022, marking a 62.1 percent solution rate, new figures released by the Interior Ministry on Thursday show.

The statistical update said the number of registered crimes had decreased by 3.39 percent from the previous year.

It also noted most crimes committed last year in the country were thefts, with 8,477 out of 15,862 cases resolved.

From other categories of crime, the Ministry said 212 out of 1,470 cases involving death had been solved, with 42 involving premeditated murder and 32 murder committed under aggravating circumstances.

Law enforcement agencies also recorded 11,070 cases of suicide, with 21 solved.

In other figures, 176 cases involving rape were identified and 123 of them resolved, while 5,170 out of 5,471 drug-related cases were also successfully closed.

The institutions also identified 68 and solved 46 cases involving violations related to Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories throughout the year.
