Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and a group of MPs on Friday visited children patients with leukaemia in a Tbilisi clinic to bring messages of congratulation on the holiday season and wishes for the new year.

Joined by Vice Speakers Giorgi Volski, David Sergeenko and Levan Ioseliani, as well as MP Irma Zavradashvili, Papuashvili delivered presents to the young patients being treated at the Onco-Hematology Centre of the Iashvili Clinic, the Parliament’s press office said.

We visited children with leukaemia [and] their parents, who are heroes and are fighting together with doctors [against the illness]. There are many positive results in [the patients’] treatment. We gave the children presents and congratulated them on the New Year”, the Parliament Speaker said.

Papuashvili and the MPs also inspected ongoing works on the infrastructure at the clinic, with Volski noting the ongoing rehabilitation would be completed by the end of the month, and said both the physical environment and treatment at the facility were ”equal to the international, European standard”.

In his comments, Ioseliani noted it was “important” for the Government to invest more in children's healthcare.

It is very important and at the same time exciting to communicate with these children. I am glad that the results of treatment in this hospital are one of the best. It is very important for the Government to invest more in healthcare [and] in the treatment of children”, he noted.

Twenty children patients are undergoing treatment in the Onco-Hematology Department of the Clinic.
