Irakli Kadagishvili, a member of the Georgian Dream ruling party, on Friday said the establishment of a strategic partnership between Georgia and China was an “important result” of the country's foreign policy.

In his comments on the Georgian Prime Minister’s ongoing visit to China, Kadagishvili highlighted the importance of the trip, noting the cooperation between the two countries would increase in economy, humanitarian area, culture and politics.

He said the United States and the European Union held the “lion's share” of trade with China, making it “crucial” for Georgia - which forms a key part of the Middle Corridor, a logistics route between Central Asia and Europe - to strengthen its commercial and economic ties with China.

The parliament official also highlighted the Chinese President’s awareness of Georgia's foreign aspirations, which he said did not prevent high-level cooperation between the two countries.

The official also noted that along with the shared economic interests within the strategic partnership, the political sphere of relations was also important, and pointed out the importance of support from "as many strategically important states as possible" in the de-occupation of Georgia's Russian-occupied regions.
