The Georgian U21 national football team on Wednesday defeated Portugal 2:0 in the opening match of the UEFA 2023 Under 21 European Championship, held at the Dinamo Arena stadium in the country’s capital city of Tbilisi.
Georgian forward Giorgi Gagua opened the score, with Saba Sazonov scoring the second goal for the team at the end of the first half, securing the win for the Georgians.
The national team, coached by Ramaz Svanadze, will face Belgium on Saturday in Tbilisi.

The capital Tbilisi, the western city of Kutaisi and the Black Sea city of Batumi are hosting games of the tournament in Georgia, co-hosting the competition with Romania through July 8.
