Georgian Interior, Defence ministers discuss cooperation with Turkish National Security Council Sec-Gen

Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze discussed fruitful cooperation between Georgia and Turkey on Wednesday at the meetings with Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu, the Turkish Secretary General of the National Security Council.

In his meeting with Turkish official, Gomelauri highlighted the “close and intense” cooperation between law enforcement agencies of Georgia and Turkey, noting the latter’s “important role” in developing the capabilities of the Georgian Interior Ministry.

At the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of partnership relations between the two states and reviewed the cooperation in border protection, the measures taken for crime prevention and the future perspectives of collaboration in this direction, the Interior Ministry said.

Gomelauri thanked his Turkish colleague for his visit to Georgia and expressed hope that the cooperation between the parties would continue actively in the future.

The cooperation in defence and Turkey’s support in the process of transformation of Georgian defence forces were discussed by Burchuladze and Hacımüftüoğlu at the meeting. The sides reviewed the significance of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package and highlighted Turkey’s contribution to the successful implementation of the initiatives under the package.

The importance of strategic cooperation between Georgia and Turkey was emphasised by the officials while reviewing the security and existing challenges in the Black Sea region, the Defence Ministry said.

Burchuladze also pointed out the Georgia-Turkey-Azerbaijan tripartite cooperation format and emphasised the importance of tripartite exercises for increasing the compatibility between the countries.

The Georgian official thanked Hacımüftüoğlu for his support and practical assistance for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
