The Georgian national six-a-side football team, competing in the Socca World Cup 2023 for the first time, will face Ireland in the first match of the tournament on Sunday.
The Georgian team has won the right to compete at the World Cup with the results achieved at the Socca EuroCup in Moldova, where the team reached the semi-finals. The national team, coached by Rosto Partsvania, will also face Scotland, Morocco and Ireland in upcoming matches.
The national team includes Lasha Totadze, the former captain of Tbilisi-based professional football club Dinamo Tbilisi, Shota Topuria and Davit Bobokhidze, current and former futsal players, as well as Giorgi Dumbadze and Giorgi Kiknadze, the former members of Tbilisi-based Locomotive FC.
The World Cup, organised by the International Socca Federation, the governing body for six-a-side football, is running from June 2 to June 11 in Germany’s city of Essen, with 40 countries taking part in the competition.
