Winners of “Clean Region” 2022 contest unveiled

The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia announced the winners of the “Clean Region” 2022 contest, which aims to promote public involvement in cleaning activities, the Ministry said on Saturday.

Solomon Pavliashvili, the Deputy Environment Protection and Agriculture Minister, attended the award ceremony and highlighted the importance of the public’s “active participation” in the competition, which contributes to the creation of a modern waste management system in the country and raising awareness in this regard.

The winners of the 2022 contest are: 

  • Clean Region - Mtskheta-Mtianeti
  • Clean Municipality - Lagodekhi
  • Clean City - Zugdidi
  • Clean Village - Chakvinji in Zugdidi, Lesichine in Chkhorotsku
  • Beautiful Yard - Kakha Turava's yard in Zugdidi and Akaki Jejelava's yard in Martvili
  • Beautiful Balcony - Seventeen Rooms Hotel in Telavi
  • Beautiful Yard of the Enterprise - Shumi's yard of winemaking in Telavi
  • Clean/Beautiful Street - Kostava street in Rustavi
  • Blue Stream - Chikhura in Sachkhere

Nino Ckhobadze, the chair of the Greens Movement of Georgia, noted that this year’s nominations were “outstanding” and “highly” competitive, and expressed hope to see “even more interesting” results next year.

The competition has been organised by the non-governmental organisations Greens Movement of Georgia, Keep Georgia Tidy, and Georgian Society of Nature Explorers Orchis, with the support of the Swedish Government, the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Information and Education Center and Solid Waste Management Company, since 2015.
