Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Tuesday said Starring Georgia, a planned summer series of music performances by popular global artists in the country, would ensure an “effect” of ₾100 million ($39.92mln) on the domestic economy and promote the domestic tourist potential.

Davitashvili was commenting on the programme launched to host a line-up of artists at various events across the country throughout August, and said the Government was aiming to “maximise the potential” of the locations, in particular the Black Sea Arena in the coastline town of Shekvetili, through the events.

He also said events planned throughout the year would attract domestic visitors, tourists from the wider Black Sea region and travellers from further abroad. He cited the Check in Georgia project that hosted performers and visitors in 2016 as an example of such initiatives.

The programme will be important in raising the awareness of the country, attracting new visitors and having a “very positive dynamic” for the development of domestic tourism, he also said.

The Minister said the goal of Starring Georgia was to draw “even more widely known performers” next year, and highlighted the role of hosting such promotional programmes on a regular basis.

In the programme for hosting the artists in the summer, the line-up will bring French multi-instrumentalist performer FKJ, house and techno mainstay Damian Lazarus, American pop rock band Imagine Dragons and other performers in Shekvetili and other locations.

Beside shows at the Black Sea Arena - a 10,000 capacity venue in the resort - the programme will see spaces in capital Tbilisi and other venues across the country host the events.
