Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and Thea Roseman Candler, the United States Assistant Secretary of Commerce for export control on Wednesday discussed trade and economic relations between the two countries.
The Ministry said the officials praised the growing trade balance between their countries, as well as the increase in US investments in Georgia.
It also noted the US was among the top three investor countries of Georgia in 2022, and seventh among its largest trade partner countries.
On his part, Candler praised the Georgian Government’s efforts in enforcement of international sanctions imposed on Russia for its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
The meeting also discussed bilateral cooperation in energy, civil aviation, maritime transport, trade, telecommunications, information technology and other sectors.
The cooperation between Georgia and the World Bank, as well as projects implemented both in public and private sectors of the country with the latter’s support were discussed on Wednesday between the Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Antonella Bassani, the Vice President of the World Bank for the Europe and Central Asia.
Vakhtang Tsintsadze, the Georgian Deputy Economy Minister, on Wednesday cited the International Monetary Fund on its projection of 5 percent average economic growth for Georgia between 2023-2028, and said the Fund’s figures put the country as a “leader” both regionally and among European states.
Georgian Deputy Finance Minister Mikheil Dundua on Wednesday said the country had showed “best results” among 193 countries in four “important indicators” in the updated 2022-2028 assessment and long-term forecast of the International Monetary Fund.
Economic questions and cooperation between the World Bank and Georgia were discussed on Wednesday between the Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Koen Davidse, the Executive Director of the World Bank.
Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili on Friday said his Government’s efforts in enforcing international sanctions imposed on Russia for its ongoing invasion of Ukraine had been “praised at all meetings” with financial organisations hosted as part of his official visit to the United States this week.
The International Monetary Fund’s updated forecast, projecting the “highest” economic growth for Georgia - 5 percent average - among the countries of the wider region and Europe, in the medium term between 2023-2028, was discussed on Saturday by the Georgian Government’s Economic Council, led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
