Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili extended his congratulations of the Nowruz Muslim celebration to the ethnic Azerbaijanis and all Muslim citizens of the country on Monday, wishing them “health, peace and prosperity” in the southern city of Marneuli.

In the city where ethnic Azerbaijanis are represented among other ethnic groups, the head of Government thanked the local Azerbaijani and other Muslim communities for their contribution to the development of the country.

The Muslim community is an “integral part of Georgian society”, Garibashvili said, adding “we have always been together and we are creating the common history of our country”.

The Muslim communities of Georgia are celebrating the ancient festival - also known as the Persian New Year - that symbolises the coming of spring and rebirth. Nowruz is inscribed in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
