Prosecutor’s Office charges 2 for fraudulent misappropriation of bank funds

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged two individuals for appropriation of 239,450 GEL (about $74,000/€67,400) from Khalik Bank Georgia through a fraudulent scheme.

Identified only through their initials, the Office said the pair had used a credit card of a foreign national, and a fake contract between them, to steal the sum from the bank.

The fake service agreement involved notional real estate work by a company R.L. was registered as a founder of, with the two individuals then using an enterprise-owned Point-of-Sale terminal to transfer the money from the bank to the account of R.L.

Law enforcement also arrested the co-conspirator, identified as G.A., while the Prosecutor’s Office said further investigation was underway to identify other individuals involved in the scheme.

The crime is punishable by six to nine years in prison.
