Georgia holds “significant place” in counter-terrorist activities - State Security Service Interagency Commission

The permanent Interagency Commission composed of different public authorities and chaired by the State Security Service on Friday held the sixth meeting, highlighting that Georgia takes one of the “significant places” in counter-terrorist activities, according to international estimates.

The meeting was opened by the Head of the Service Grigol Liluashvili, who assessed the counter-terrorist situation in the world and in the country. He highlighted the activities carried out by Georgia in this direction and the successful cooperation with international partners. 

Liluashvili “positively” evaluated the implementation process of the National Counterterrorism Strategy and Action Plan and noted that most of the goals set by the strategy and action plan had been achieved during 2022, having a positive impact on the country's security environment.

Our activities in the counter-terrorism have been highlighted in many international publications. It is noteworthy that in the reports, annually issued by the United States State Department, our country [Georgia] occupies a significant place as a stable and loyal partner in the counter-terrorism”, Liluashvili added.

The Head of the Service emphasised that as a result of carried activities there had not occurred “any terrorist incidents” during this year and none of the terrorist groups had had a chance to become active, stressing 2022 was a  “peaceful year”.

The SSS representative, Giorgi Sabedashvili submitted a report presentation of the 2022 Strategy, prepared with the active involvement of the member agencies of the Commission and also briefed the participants of the meeting on the implemented activities, achieved results and existing challenges.
