The Gurjaani District Court in Georgia’s east has sentenced two individuals, including a minor, for disclosure of personal information, inhumane treatment and group violence against a 68-year-old man, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia announced on Friday.
In its statement, the Office said an investigation by the Interior Ministry had revealed the arrested individuals had verbally and physically assaulted the victim and extorted money from him on June 22 in Kvareli Municipality.
The offenders had also forced the victim to commit specific actions “humiliating to his honour and dignity”, the state body said, and threatened the victim with release of the footage unless paid.
One of the offenders is set to face six years in prison, while the minor is set to face four years and six months of imprisonment.
The Office also added the offenders had been acquitted by the Court on charges of group robbery and extortion, and added it intended to appeal the judgement.
