My First Festival, a Spanish cinema event for children, has awarded Franzy's Soup, an animation by Georgian director Ana Chubinidze, the prize for the best short film for those aged over four.
The 2021-produced work collected one of the two awards in the short films category of the event, with the other prize, for children aged above seven, going to The Queen of the Foxes by Marina Rosset.
Juries of the festival noted the former film's "careful technique" and script, in addition to the "originality of the approach", character design and humour. Their summary also said the work had "generated a rich debate because it admits different readings, both by adults and by children".

Alone on her asteroid, Franzy leads a happy life until she runs out of her delicious magic soup, made from a secret recipe her parents taught her
- summary by My First Festival
The French-produced film, which received development support from the Georgian National Film Centre and has a runtime of under nine minutes, follows its protagonist chef, whose soup recipe makes magic happen when she shares the dish with other creatures.
Earlier this year, it screened at France's Annecy Festival, a leading international event for animated cinema, with the screen production following a 32-page illustrated book released in Georgia by Virgam Virtual Publishers in 2015 and featuring the characters of the production in a still form.
The film has been produced with screenplay, graphics and storyboard by Chubinidze and animation by Chaïtane Conversat, Loreleï Palies, Sophie Roze and Iula Voitova. The short also involves a musical score by Erekle Gestadze and Zviad Mgebry, while sound comes via Beso Kacharava, George Murgulia, Biko Gogaladze, Giorgi Lekishvili and Alexander Sanikidze.
It also comes following prizes awarded to the filmmaker by international festivals for The Pocket Man, her previous work, which was recognised at Montreal and Sharjah cinema events and received acclaim at the Countryside Animafest Cyprus, where it earned the Best Children's Film prize.
