The Georgian defence ministry hosted local reporters and students of the journalism faculties of a number of universities in a five-day programme last week introducing the daily routine of servicemembers of the country’s armed forces.

Participants spent the days at the 2nd infantry brigade base in Senaki in western Georgia, and were challenged to experience a notional nighttime combat scenario and air evacuation.

Defence minister Juansher Burchuladze met the participants to thank them for their involvement and hand over certificates for the programme.

It is very important for the public - especially media representatives - to become acquainted with the Georgian army and be informed about its daily life. This information will be useful to them both in their personal life and career”, Burchuladze said.

“This project is a unique opportunity for journalists to learn how to behave during war, how to overcome fears and barriers in order to provide balanced and accurate information to the public”, Interpressnews reporter Tamta Kakauridze said after the conclusion of the programme, which was organised by the ministry for the sixth time.
