Georgian para powerlifter Akaki Jincharadze claimed a gold medal at the European Open Championships in Tbilisi on Wednesday.
The Georgian athlete defeated his Turkish and Greek rivals in the 107 kg category after lifting 225 and 228 kilograms on the fifth day of the tournament.

Jincharadze is the first Georgian who has won gold in para powerlifting competitions.
The Championships serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
The Georgian paralympic committee hosts the Ukrainian national team in Para powerlifting with its funds at the European Open Championships, which opened on Saturday and will run till Thursday, in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.
The Georgian women’s wheelchair fencing team earned gold and bronze medals at the world cup event in Pisa on Thursday, the fencing federation of Georgia said.
Georgia’s seated basketball team took gold in the wheelchair basketball competition defeating the US team at the 2019 Marine Corps Trials in California. Georgia received 34 medals in various competitions of the Marine Corps Trials since its start on February 24.
A Georgian judoka has made history by winning the first ever Paralympic medal for Georgia. Zviad Gogotchuri won gold in the 90kg category.

Georgian para powerlifters have claimed seven medals, including two gold, at IWAS 2022 World Games.
