Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and the secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday hailed the professionalism of the special forces officers who successfully solved a hostage situation at the Bank of Georgia branch in Georgia’s western city of Kutaisi on Tuesday.
The security of the country, maintenance of order and peace of the citizens depend on the professionalism of each law enforcement officer participating in the special operation [in Kutaisi]”, the GD official said.
In his remarks over the matter, Kaladze noted the “great” contribution of the law enforcement officers to the successful implementation of the special operation.
A professionally conducted special operation resulted in the return of all hostages to their families and the arrest of the robber. I would like to thank the minister of internal affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri and every law enforcement officer participating in the special operation”, Kaladze concluded.
An armed robber on Tuesday held twelve individuals hostage after his intrusion in the bank, demanding $2 million in return for freeing his hostages and telling them he had an explosive device attached to his body and threatening to activate it if his demands were not met.
He was arrested later during the day following an operation involving special forces, with the action freeing all hostages from the branch of the bank.
