Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday responded to the recent decision of the de facto authorities in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region to transfer 186 hectares of territory in the Bichvinta resort town to Russia on a 49-year lease by saying that “not only Bichvinta, but the entire Abkhazia and Samachablo (Tskhinvali/South Ossetia region) have been temporarily occupied by Russia”.
In his remarks over the matter Garibashvili stressed that as a result of “our prudent policy”, the peace and the stability had been maintained in the country, and the Georgian Government would unite “our country” with such “prudent policy”.
The head of the Government called on the domestic politicians not to make “unnecessary fuss”, reminding that the country had lost the Kodori valley and more than 100 villages during the 2008 war with Russia as a result of their “imprudent policies”.
Not only Bichvinta, but all of Abkhazia, our indigenous, historical territory and Samachablo, Tskhinvali region, have temporarily been occupied by Russia. [...] We are maintaining peace, tranquillity, and stability in the country with our prudent policy and we will unite our country with this prudent policy”, Garibashvili told the local media.
