Friendly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board Allahshukur Pashazadeh.

In the meeting, Pashazadeh conveyed to Garibashvili a “warm greeting” from the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Government Administration said, while the head of the Georgian Government noted that Azerbaijan was not only a neighbouring state but also a “brotherly people”, with Georgia valuing the “brotherhood and friendship” between the two countries.

[I]n all directions, we [Georgia and Azerbaijan] have extraordinary results, specific progress, we have a very good relationship, and your visit is a proof of this brotherhood and love. I am especially pleased that you have a special friendship with our Holiness [Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia]”, Garibashvili said.

Pashazadeh also stressed the contribution of the Georgian Prime Minister to the relations of the two countries.

[I] am not a politician, but the fact that the relations of these two neighbouring countries in the Caucasus are at a high level in terms of political, economic, cultural, religious and other directions is definitely noteworthy”, he noted.

The meeting focused on various measures implemented by the Georgian Government in terms of supporting the domestic Muslim community. The Government’s handing over of 228 mosques to the Muslim community, as well as 1,300 square metres of land in Tbilisi for the construction of the central office of the Administration of All Muslims of Georgia, was noted in particular.
