Georgian law enforcers have arrested two individuals for kidnapping a young woman in Georgia’s eastern Marneuli municipality, the Interior Ministry announced on Thursday.
The statement said the police had found the offenders had kidnapped their victim, identified only through their initials and birth year of 2002, with the purpose of arranging a forced marriage.
The crime is punishable up to 10 years in prison.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has launched an information campaign against child marriage in partnership with the local office of the United Nations Population Fund, the Ministry said on Wednesday.
