Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Monday paid a tribute to the victims of the June 13, 2015 Tbilisi flood that claimed 21 lives.

The officials laid flowers at the memorial of victims of the flood in the city, with a memorial church service also performed.

The tribute was one among a number of events marking seven years since the flash flood that turned into the city’s worst human and infrastructure disaster in decades, claiming the lives of citizens and leaving the remains of two individuals still missing.

It also decimated the downtown Tbilisi Zoo, which lost half of its animal population in the flood.

Earlier on Monday, a sculpture of hippopotamus Begi, which escaped the Zoo during the flood, was unveiled by Tbilisi City Hall in Mziuri Park, a popular recreational area in the city.
