Release of Georgian citizens illegally detained by Russian occupation forces, and the illegal ‘borderisation’ process along the occupation line in Georgia were in focus of the 107th Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meeting on Tuesday, the Georgian State Security Service said.
Irakli Antadze, the Deputy Director of the Information Security Analytical Department of the SSS, said the Georgian Government and its international partners were working “to make progress” in securing release of the seven Georgian citizens, currently in detention in central Georgia’s occupied Tskhinvali region.
During today's 107th IPRM meeting, co-facilitators @EUMMGeorgia & @OSCE welcomed the recent release of a detainee, but voiced concern about the high number of active detention cases & urged a humanitarian approach towards their resolution.

Issues impacting the daily lives of local communities along the occupation line were also reviewed, including the prolonged closure of crossing points on the administrative boundary line. The co-facilitators of the meeting reiterated their call for a re-opening of the crossing points by de facto authorities, and proposed “concrete ways” of reaching that objective, the Service said.
The meeting was held under the co-facilitation of Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, the Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia, and Ambassador Viorel Moşanu, the Special Representative of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus.
The next IPRM meeting has been scheduled to convene on September 23.
