A temporary government commission will be set up in Georgia to host the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced today.
[The commission] will organise the successful conduct of this championship and will resolve all issues related to it,” Garibashvili said.
Georgia along with Romania was appointed as host of the championship in December last year. The tournament is planned to be played at four Georgian stadiums. The final match of the tournament will be held in Georgia.
Garibashvili said that the final match will be held at the new stadium in Batumi, “which was built with the funding of the Georgian government.”
Matches will be held in Tbilisi and Batumi, as well as in Kutaisi…The Strongest eight teams selected from eight countries will arrive in Georgia,” Garibashvili added.
He also discussed the upcoming 41st edition EuroBasket 2022 which will be co-hosted by Georgia on September 1-18, 2022, and noted that “a new European-standard sports palace is being built in Tbilisi which will be completed this summer,” adding “we will hold the European Championship in Tbilisi with dignity.”
On September 1-18, 2022, Georgia will co-host a major continental competition that involves 32 teams from Europe along with Italy, Germany and Czech Republic.
Georgia will also host the 2023 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championship from February 19 to March 5 in Bakuriani.
Garibashvili said earlier today that for this championship three ski slopes and artificial lakes will be arranged, adding “a lot of work is being done, which will ultimately remain in Bakuriani for our population.”
Hosting the 2023 World Championship in Georgia is a most important athletic event that will play a vital role in the development of winter sports, the Georgian authorities believe.
