Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday confirmed his readiness to visit Ukraine on invitation from his Ukrainian counterpart Ruslan Stefanchuk, with the trip aimed to support the country amid the Russian invasion.

Papuashvili said supporting Ukraine and its people was “our moral and historic duty, and we will honour and fulfil this duty” in comments on the invitation by Stefanchuk, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

My Ukrainian colleague reiterated his desire to host me in Ukraine, to personally share human tragedies and the results of destruction caused by the Russian aggression. Today we are planning to hold a more extensive conversation regarding the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine and the European future of our countries,” Papuashvili said.

The Georgian official stressed there was a “room for solving every misunderstanding” between authorities of the two states that have recently been raised on matters in the wake of the Russian invasion.

We will discuss Georgia-Ukraine relations and our coordination needs in order to avoid the misunderstandings similar to those that have recently taken place, and to further strengthen the historically brotherly bonds between our countries and nations,” the Parliament Speaker concluded.
