Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili on Saturday paid tribute to Archil Tatunashvili, the country’s national hero and a former servicemember who was brutally murdered by the Russian occupation forces in February 2018.
The Georgian PM pointed out Tatunashvili, would have turned 39 today, had sacrificed his life in order to “protect his homeland and dignity.”
“With all citizens of our country, I honour the memory of a great patriot,” Garibashvili wrote, adding his government was using “all international, legal” means to ensure that those guilty of Tatunashvili’s death would be held responsible before the law.
The body of Tatunashvili was handed over to Tbilisi 26 days after his murder in Georgia’s Russian-occupied breakaway Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
In September 2018, Interpol issued a red notice for two individuals, David Gurtsiev and Alik Tabuev, who charged with the murder of Tatunashvili by the Georgian Government. However, they are yet to be arrested.
Today Georgia marks the birthday of national hero Archil Tatunashvili, a former soldier, who was tortured and killed by the Russian-controlled occupation forces back in 2018 in the country’s occupied Tskhinvali region. Tatunashvili would have turned 38 today. The body of 35-year-old Tatunashvili was handed over to Tbilisi 26 days after his death with more than 100 injuries.
Archil Tatunashvili, a former Georgian soldier who was brutally murdered by occupying forces in the occupied Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia) last year, would have turned 36 today. His body was transported to the Tbilisi administered territory only after about a month with his internal organs removed and more than 100 injuries on his body.
The body of the 35-year-old Georgian soldier, Archil Tatunashvili, who died in unclear circumstances in the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region on February 23, has been handed over to representatives of the government of Georgia several minutes ago, 26 days after his death.
Interpol has issued a red notice for two individuals charged with the illegal deprivation of liberty of three Georgian citizens in February earlier this year and the murder of one of them, 35-year-old Archil Tatunashvili.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday commemorated an anniversary of the killing of Archil Tatunashvili, a servicemember who was murdered by Russian occupation forces in central Georgia’s occupied territory in 2018, by saying his name had “become a symbol of dignity and perseverance” for the Georgian public and future generations.
