CineDOC-Tbilisi festival announces winners of 2021 Focus Caucasus competition

This year's edition of CineDOC-Tbilisi festival has announced winner documentaries of 2021 Focus Caucasus competition featuring the newest films from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The Focus Caucasus Award was given to the film 'Storgetnya' directed by Hovig Hagopian (France/Armenia), which ‘captures fragments of an absurd, dark and weird space’, based on the jury assessments.

In strict ‘tableaux’ very well shot and haunted by peculiar characters, step by step the purpose of a strange situation is exposed”, the assessment further reads.

Moreover, 'The Dead Will Understand' a film by Georgian directors Ana Jegnaradze and Marita Tevzadze has received special jury mention award, while 'Taming the Garden' by another Georgian director Salome Jashi has received special jury mention.

CineDOC-Tbilisi festival, which kicked off on August 15, ran through September 15:

Works from documentary filmmakers were screened in digital spaces in a daily programme amid the pandemic, with the festival headlined by the Best of CineDOC-Tbilisi selection in cooperation with the Georgian Public Broadcaster, DAFilms and Adjara TV channel.

The Best of CineDOC-Tbilisi section was screened on workdays, while viewers were invited to spend their weekends visiting the festival website for finding 10 recent works from the customary Focus Caucasus programme, dedicated to exploring people and societies of the region.
