British Royal Navy air defence destroyer HMS Defender is making a port call in the Georgian Black Sea port in Batumi.

The British Embassy in Tbilisi says the purpose of its visit is 'to demonstrate close cooperation between UK and Georgia promoting defence and security in the Black Sea region'.

HMS Defender and the Georgian Coast Guard ships participate in the joint naval exercise in the Black Sea aimed to increase interoperability between the crews and develop Georgian Coast Guard capabilities.
HMS Defender (D36), one of the most powerful air-defence destroyers in the Royal Navy, is visiting Georgia for the first time.
Together with her sister vessels, HMS Defender is one of the most advanced warships ever constructed.
