Award-winning Georgian director Levan Koguashvili will be one of the filmmakers whose works will have debuts at the 20th anniversary edition of the internationally celebrated Tribeca Film Festival in June.
Koguashvili's feature Brighton 4th will have its world premiere at the American event gearing up to return to in-person meeting with its audience following a year of pandemic-related lockdowns.
The co-production involving Bulgaria, Georgia, Monaco, Russia and the United States will be in the International Narrative Competition programme that involves five other premieres from across the world.
Koguashvili builds his script around a Georgian wrestler embarking on a mission to rescue his son from debt incurred in gambling in Brooklyn.

Film New Europe called the film a look "at the underbelly of life in the immigrant community in Brighton Beach", while the filmmaker himself has characterised it as a "mix of drama and comedy".
Brighton 4th received the Jury Prize and the ARP Selection Award at Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film Lab during its production in 2019, which added to the support lent to it by Georgian and Bulgarian national film centres.
Koguashvili is recipient of awards for his films including Gogita’s New Life (Special Mention at the Docudays UA festival) and Blind Dates (Sofia International Film Festival)
Tribeca Film Festival is scheduled to run between June 9-20, with the full selection of films available here.
