Former Prosecutor General of Georgia Zurab Adeishvili has been sentenced to 1.6 years in prison in absentia and was deprived of taking any official post for two years for illegal closure of Iberia TV back in 2004, under the United National Movement government.
Former Deputy Prosecutor General Giorgi Latsabidze was fined 40,000 GEL in the same case by Tbilisi City Court earlier today.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office says that the United National Movement government, which came to power in 2004, decided to exercise control on Iberia TV and ‘made an illegal plan’ for this which was fulfilled by Adeishvili and his deputy.
Adeishvili and Latsabidze were charged with abuse of authority in the case in 2016, under the Georgian Dream leadership.
Adeishvili left Georgia on October 1, 2012, on the day of parliamentary elections in Georgia in which the Georgian Dream coalition defeated the United National Movement.
Adeishvili has already been sentenced in absentia for an illegal raid in Imedi TV in 2007, illegal confiscation of Akura vinery and abuse of authority in Cartu Bank case.
