Georgia improves position in list of ‘Freedom Barometers’

Georgia has improved its position in the latest list of ‘Freedom Barometers’ published by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation annually for different countries around the world.

The report summarises the indicators of countries in regard to political freedom, rule of law, and economic freedom.

This year, Georgia is in 27th position among a list of 45 countries and scored 69.06/100. Georgia’s scores improved by 4.95 points overall in comparison to last year. 

Georgia's points improved in the categories of:

  • Freedom of press - by 2.10 points 
  • Rule of law - by 1.08 points 
  • Corruption - by 0.20 points 
  • Protection of human rights – by 0.58 points 
  • Security of property rights – by 1.13 points 
  • Size of government: expenditures, taxes and enterprises – by 0.02 points 
  • Regulation of credit, labour and business – by 0.28 points 

Worsened in the categories of:

  • Freedom to trade internationally – by 0.08 points 
  • Free fair elections – by 0.36 points 

Georgia is ahead of all its neighbouring countries as well as Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece, and Hungary. However, in the post-Soviet space, Georgia is behind the Baltic States.
