Police detain one for bride kidnapping in Kvemo Kartli

Police have detained a Georgian citizen for bride kidnapping in the town of Marneuli, Kvemo Kartli region. 

The Georgian Interior Ministry reported today that the individual, identified only as G.M. and born in 1998, kidnapped a girl, identified only as A.K. and born in 2002.

Interior Ministry released video footage of the detention:

Yesterday G.M., with the help of the three accomplices, tried to abduct A.K. to force her to marry him.

The crime is punishable by seven to ten years in prison.

Public Defender Nino Lomjaria visited the abducted girls’s family, witnesses and the local police yesterday.

Lomjaria was told that the girl was against the marriage, she resisting while being kidnapped and asked for help, but in vain.
