A Georgian citizen has been illegally detained close to the Russia-occupied Georgian region of Tskhinvali.
The State Security Service has announced that the individual was detained in the vicinity of the Zardiantkari village of Gori municipality yesterday.
Illegal detentions by the occupying forces affect the security environment on the ground and seriously deteriorate the everyday lives of the local population”, the State Security Service said
The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) has been informed and its hotline has been activated.
Co-chairs of Geneva International Discussions and other international partners of Georgia have also been notified.
The US and UNDP representation to Georgia say that they are ‘concerned and alarmed’ by the shooting and illegal detention of Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze, 33, by the Russian-controlled occupation forces on July 11.
A man and his wife living in the village of Khurvaleti, who were illegally detained by occupying forces two weeks ago near occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, have been released. Reportedly, they were released yesterday after a two-week quarantine aimed to prevent the coronavirus transmission in occupied Tskhinvali.
Georgian citizen Gela Rostobaia was detained by occupying forces for “illegally crossing” the so-called border in the village of Shamgona, near Georgia’s occupied region of Abkhazia. Rostobaia, 39, was detained while fishing in the Enguri River yesterday, his father said.
Georgian citizen Givi Beruashvili, who was illegally detained by occupying forces for “illegally crossing” the so-called border on March 17 has been released, the Georgian State Security Service says. Beruashvili, 21, was visiting his grandparents there, who live 500 meters from the occupation line.
Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani said the illegal detention of Georgian citizens close to the Russia-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) exacerbate the already grave humanitarian situation there.
