The ‘Supreme Court’ in Georgia’s Russian occupied Tskhinvali region has sentenced former head of so-called presidential administration of Tskhinvali Sergey Lipin to 16 years in prison for treason, while his wife Nanuli Chulukhadze, an ethnic Georgian,  has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

The de facto Prosecutor’s Office of Tskhinvali claims that Lipin and his wife were spying ‘for Georgia’ and providing ‘crucial, strategic information to Tbilisi’ during the Russia-Georgia 2008 war and after.

The de facto agency said that it was Lipin and his wife who informed Tbilisi about the location of Tskhinvali’s strategic objects during the 2008 war.

Tskhinvali reports that both convicts have admitted to the crime and have no plans to appeal the verdict.

Lipin’s daughter is also accused of treason. However, she is on Tbilisi-administered territory, according to local media outlets.

The charges were brought against Lipin and his wife in July 2019.
