Face masks produced in Georgia by private companies have been exported to European countries and the USA.
Today we can say that we used to be an importing country, but now we are an exporting country of face masks”, said Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava.
As for the 12-layer face masks produced in the framework of the state programme, their export is not planned. Turnava said that about 5 million 12-layer face masks have been produced as of now and pharmacies are being supplied.
In March around 10 Georgian companies began producing face masks in a move to meet the surge in need for facemasks amid the outbreak of the new coronavirus.

Individuals will be fined 20 GEL (about $6.6/€5.8) for not wearing face masks in closed public areas, public transport and taxis starting today.
Georgian company Medifari, which produces facemasks, is negotiating with Italy, the United States, Russia, Austria and Israel to export face masks to these countries.
Six Georgian textile companies have produced one million face masks in the last two weeks in an effort to help stem the spread of the new coronavirus. Two more companies will also start the production from Monday.
