Georgian wines win gold, silver medals at Poland wine championship

Georgian wines have taken gold and silver medals at the International Rose Championship 2020 in Poland, announces the National Wine Agency of Georgia.
Georgian wines were presented by the Polish contractor organisation of the agency Malinova.
There were 220 wines from 28 countries presented at the championship.
The success of Georgian wine in such a prestigious international competition indicates its high quality and further increases the awareness of Georgian wine worldwide, which is especially important against the background of the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus, which, like many countries around the world, has affected the Georgian wine industry,” says the agency.
The wines which took gold were: Iberieli - “Zurab Topuridze Chkhaveri (Guria) – 2018”, Cellar Dimna (Imereti) – “Dzelshavi 2017”.
“Zurab Topuridze Chkhaveri (Guria) – 2018“ also received a special prize in the best wines category.
The wines which took silver were: Telavi Wine Cellar - Tskriala Rose (Kakheti) -2019,“ “Saperavi Rose (Kakheti) – 2019,” and “Lapati wines,”and “kidev erti pet-nati (Kartli) – 2016.”
The judges were Master of Wine Elizabeth Gabay and 12 of the best experts from seven different countries.
Georgia exported 94 million bottles of wine to 53 countries in 2019, which is nine percent more compared to 2018 and the highest export volume in the history of independent Georgia, says the Georgian National Wine Agency.
The Georgian wine variety of Tsarapi has been added to the list of protected Georgian appellation wines, announces the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti).T sarapi is an amber dry wine from the village of Kardenakhi of Gurjaani region of Georgia, on a 3-4° inclination of the Tsiv-Gombori Range North-East slope, on the right bank of the River Alazani.
The Georgian wine variety of Ojaleshi Salkhino has been added to the list of protected Georgian appellation wines. Salkhinos Ojaleshi is a red dry wine from Martvili municipality in the western Georgian region of Samegrelo.
Georgia takes 18th place among the world’s top wine exporting countries in 2018 by income generated by sales based on the paper “World’s top 60 wine exporting countries by value in 2018” published by the American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE).
A Georgian wine cellar has opened in Vejby Vingard, a small winery in southern region of Sweden. Ambassador of Georgia to Sweden Malkhaz Kakabadze and Deputy Head of International Relations Committee at the Riksdag Hans Wallmark greeted guests.
A group of Polish wine professionals have visited Georgia with the aim of learning about the traditional and modern techniques of winemaking in the country and promoting it in the Polish market, the National Wine Agency of Georgia said on Friday.
