Cardiovascular diseases and cancer were the leading causes of death in Georgia in 2019’ says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Geostat reports that 21,448 individuals died of cardiovascular diseases, while 7,873 died of cancer last year.
In total 46,659 individuals died in Georgia in 2019, out of which 24,019 were male and 22,640 were female.
Injuries and poisoning caused the deaths of 2,295 Georgian citizens in 2019.
Geostat reports that several disorders of the digestive, endocrine, respiratory systems, nutrition and metabolic disorders are also mentioned as some of the leading reasons of death in the country.
One-fifth (20.5% = 762,621) of the Georgian population, who are of retirement age, are at high or moderate risk in terms of the new coronavirus pandemic, reads the Georgian government’s report about the measures taken against the Covid-19.
About 19.5 per cent of Georgia’s population is under the absolute poverty line, shows the latest data of 2019 poverty indicators published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). The share of the population under the absolute poverty line decreased by 0.6 per cent in 2019 compared to 2018.
Georgia’s population has slightly increased, reaching 3,729,600 people as of January 1, 2018, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). The population increased by just 0.1 percent year-on-year from 2017.
The number of abortions reported in Georgia has slightly decreased since 2012. Official statistics released today showed the most abortions occurred in women aged 20-44.
