Tbilisi Mayor denies violence, says activists staged provocation

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has denied attacking civic activists in Varketili district yesterday, instead saying they tried to 'stage a provocation'.
However, the activists said they wanted to ask Mayor Kaladze a question, when the latter assaulted them verbally and physically.
Having filed a lawsuit against Kaladze, one of the plaintiffs Dimitri Bidzinashvili said police should examine the video footage.
Referring to the Varketili incident, Mayor Kaladze told journalists today that he did not assault anybody. However, he added that if police thought that his behaviour was violent, they should of course investigate.
The Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze has initiated to prohibit driving private vehicles on weekends. He said that only public transport, including Metro and buses may be authorized to operate.
Today the Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha kaladze introduced a new project which aims to encourage the younger generation to fulfil their business ideas.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze is the most liked leader in Georgia per the NDI’s latest polls, with 34 per cent of those surveyed having a positive view of his activities. Only 15 per cent of those questioned said they had a bad or very bad opinion of Kaladze.
Newly elected Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze has refused his mayoral salary. Tbilisi City Hall’s press office said Kaladze will serve as mayor without using his monthly salary as mayor "for his personal needs.” Instead, he will be donating this money.
