Japan opposes any attempts to change Georgia’s internationally recognised borders, reads the official statement of the Embassy of Japan to Georgia regarding the resumed Russian ‘borderisation’ activities in Georgia’s occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) and Abkhazia regions.
In its statement the embassy says that Japan reiterates its position that the peaceful resolution of the issue concerning the Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia in line with the principles of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is essential for peace and stability of the country and the entire South Caucasus region.

On May 30, anti-occupation movement Power Is Unity stated that Russian occupation forces continued making new markings in the Chorchana forest, Khashuri municipality of central Georgia, and that hundreds of hectares of forest may come under Russian occupation.
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSS) said that ‘SSS is responding to Russia’s provocative actions in Georgia’. The official statement regarding the issue also reads that the representatives of the European Monitoring Mission, the Co-Chairs of Geneva International Discussions and Georgia’s other international partners are actively involved in the process.
