Chairman of the United States Commission For the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad Paul Packer has congratulated Georgians on Independence Day, May 26 by honouring Georgian Saint Grigol Peradze, who saved lives during the invasion of Poland by German troops in 1939.

In a video published by the US Embassy in Georgia, Packer calls Peradze a 'Georgian Schindler', saying that he was 'an exceptional man' and his actions fall within a long tradition of Georgian hospitality and humanitarianism.

Packer pointed out some distinct moments from Peradze's life: how Peradze was exiled from his homeland in the 1920s as he resisted the Soviets; how he devoted himself to God, became a priest in Paris, moved to Warsaw invaded by the Nazis and saved the lives of Jews.
