The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that two former inmates under the United National Movement government, between 2004 and 2007, had inadequate conditions in prison and no access to healthcare.

The applicants were Amiran, Nana and Archil Kadagishvili (husband and wife and their son respectively), who were detained on financial charges back in 2004.

The case concerned their allegations that their trial for fraud and money laundering had been unfair and that Amiran and Archil Kadagishvili had been held in inadequate conditions of detention.

The ECHR confirmed inadequate conditions in prison and lack of medical aid for the applicants, however, said  that criminal proceedings were fair.

Georgia must pay  EUR 12,000 each to Amiran and Archil Kadagishvili for non-pecuniary damage.
