Negotiations are underway for ten individuals detained for child trafficking and child pornography in September 2019 to sign a plea bargain.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office reports that the detainees regret and admit to their crime, and that they want to sign a plea bargain.
A criminal group involving American, Australian citizens and parents of the affected children were detained on charges of child trafficking and making child pornography in September 2019.
American and Australian citizens produced child pornography with underaged girls, whose parents in turns received 800 (about $270) – 3,000 (about $1,000) GEL in exchange from the detainees.
With the help of their Georgian associates, they produced pornographic materials to sell abroad.
The Prosecutor’s Office says that if the plea bargain is signed with the American citizen, (he/she) will face a prison sentence of ten years, a fine and confiscation of property.
As for the other detainees, they will face a prison sentence of five to seven years, as well as an additional five years of probation, fines and confiscation of property obtained by crime.
