The removal of flight restrictions will be made according to the pandemic situation in Georgia as well as across the world itself.
Starting March 21 Georgia completely shut down air traffic in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The state of emergency is likely to be extended in Georgia until May 22.
Georgia has reported three new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 411.
Georgia is completely shutting down air traffic in the country starting tomorrow in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, announced the PM's Advisor for Foreign Affairs Irakli Chikovani today.Chikovani added that only "government-coordinated flights" carried out by the national flag carrier Georgian Airlines will be operated. He also said that every citizen who enters Georgia will be quarantined.
Direct flights between Georgia and Turkey will be suspended starting March 21 as Turkey has imposed restrictions on international flights. Turkey intended to ban flights from Georgia starting March 14, but the countries agreed to postpone the decision until March 21.
As of April 20 the Georgian government has brought back 6,747 citizens from different coronavirus-hit areas since the COVID-19 outbreak began worldwide. During the same period Georgian diplomatic missions helped 9,058 Georgian citizens abroad.
Georgia is extending the shutdown on regular air traffic until May 10 following the extension of the state of emergency, announces the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.
Five more individuals tested positive for coronavirus in Georgia increasing the total number of confirmed cases to 416. Meanwhile, nine infected individuals have recuperated from the virus bringing the total number of recoveries to 107.
Georgian diplomatic representations have provided support for 12,636 Georgian citizens abroad, while 7,600 others have been brought home to Georgia amid the coronavirus pandemic as of April 23 via charter flights or other measures taken by the Georgian government.
The date when restrictions on air traffic and public transport services will be removed remains unknown as it depends on the epidemiological situation in the country, noted Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia earlier today.
Coronavirus-related restrictions on regular international flights have been prolonged in Georgia until October 31, the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency has announced. No restrictions apply to flights carried out between the airports of Tbilisi, Munich, Paris and Riga.
