Agriculture in Georgia: how much food did the country produce in 2019?

The production of wheat, barley, potatoes, stone fruits and citrus decreased in Georgia in 2019, while the production of maize, nuts and subtropical fruits increased in the country, show the preliminary data of 2019 published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In 2019 Georgia produced:

  • 102,500 tonnes of wheat (4.3% year-on-year decrease)
  • 54,400 tonnes of barley (-5.7%)
  • 205,900 tonnes of maize (+6%)
  • 208,600 tonnes of potatoes (-12.2%)

The production of vegetables came out to 162,100 tonnes, which is 14 per cent higher compared to 2018.

Last year production of pome fruit amounted to 52,100 tonnes in Georgia, which is 44.2 per cent less than in the same period of 2018, said Geostat.

More specifically:

  • Stone fruit production came out to 38,600 tonnes (28.7% less compared to 2018)
  • Nuts –  31,700 tonnes (increasing by 37.2%)
  • Subtropical fruit – 20,400 tonnes (increasing by 27.5%)
  • Citruses – 64,400 tonnes (decreasing by 2.9%)
