All four checkpoints between Georgia and Azerbaijan will remain closed until April 20 per measures taken by Azerbaijan to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported earlier today.
The customs checkpoints are Tsiteli Khidi (the Red Bridge), Lagodekhi, Samtatskaro and Mtkvari.
Earlier, Georgia temporarily closed borders with Armenia and Azerbaijan on March 14 due to the coronavirus.
Only the Red Bridge checkpoint was opened on March 25, and was open from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
The new restrictions do not concern trucks.
Azerbaijan has had 717 cases of the coronavirus since the end of February. 44 of the 717 have recovered, while eight individuals have died.
Georgia has had 195 cases of the coronavirus. 39 of the 195 people have recovered, while two individuals have died.
Azerbaijan reported its first case of COVID-19 on February 28, 2020, while Georgia had its first case on February 26, 2020.
A new hospital has opened in the village of Rukhi located about a kilometre from Enguri Bridge, which connects Russia-occupied Abkhazia with the rest of Georgia. Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said the new hospital will offer qualitative care to people living on both sides of the occupation line.
Police have fined seven individuals for violating the state of emergency rules in the Georgian regions of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kvemo Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Adjara and Kakheti.
Two more individuals have recovered from the new coronavirus in Georgia out of the 90 confirmed cases in the country, increasing the number of recovered individuals to sixteen.
Georgia has reported seven new cases of the coronavirus today, bringing the total number of cases to 195.Of the 195, 39 have recovered, while two have died. As of now there are 152 active cases of the virus inside the country. 4,708 people are under quarantine in Georgia and 370 others are in hospitals. The new cases are connected with the US, while three of the seven cases are cases of community transmission.
Georgia ranks 109th worldwide and 50th in Europe in terms of the spread of COVID-19 and mortalities caused by the coronavirus, which is the one of the best results across the globe, head of Tbilisi Hospital of Infectious Diseases Tengiz Tsertsvadze said. Georgia has had 195 cases of the coronavirus since February 2020. 39 of the 195 have recovered. Two of the 195 have died of the virus so far, while two others were foreign citizens who left the country last month.
The Georgian State Security Service says that there are groups of people and individuals who are trying to incite national rivalry between ethnic Georgians and Azerbaijanis in Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions in the central and eastern parts of Georgia respectively.
Residents of Gali in occupied Abkhazia have not received IDP benefits and pensions for four months, said Chairman of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia Jemal Gamakharia.
