In June, 2017, Georgia was ranked the seventh safest country in the world by global database Numbeo. Shortly afterwards, Iceland added Georgia to the list of safe countries.

In January 2019, the German Bundestag passed a bill declaring Georgia a safe country meaning that Georgians will not be eligible to seek asylum in Germany.
