Health Minister says social workers will stop strike tomorrow

Georgia’s Minister of Health Davit Sergeenko has held a meeting with protesting social workers and says they will supposedly stop their strike tomorrow as all issues have been addressed.

We have reached an agreement,” he stated.

Sergeenko said the government has already begun settling the social workers’ problems in relation to transport facilities as they demanded additional vehicles to improve the service.

Health Minister David Sergeenko stated the social workers’ salaries will increase in nine months’ time. 

He also said more social workers will be hired  in order to improve the professional service level. Sergeenko said that more than 50 positions will be added this year.

Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze also responded to the strike. He said the social workers’ workload is very high and thanked them for their efforts.

The social workers have been on a large-scale strike across Georgia since March 25, 2018 demanding better working conditions and more efficient and timely services from the Social Service Agency of Georgia for the individuals it is responsible for.
