Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani has discussed the country’s commitment to stability in Afghanistan at a meeting with Zalmay Khalilzad, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation which was held in Washington DC.
Zalmay Khalilzad has thanked Zalkaliani for Georgia's active involvement in NATO peacekeeping missions as well as for support of stability in Afghanistan and the peaceful development of the country.
Zalkaliani has reaffirmed that Georgia, as part of the international community, condemns any forms of terrorism and supports peaceful processes in Afghanistan.
Development of international transport corridors was also discussed at the meeting.
The parties praised the Lapis Lazuli international transit route opened in 2018 linking Afghanistan to Turkey via Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia and emphasised its role in the countries’ economic development.
